Dr. Philipp Niemann
Managing Director
Dr. Philipp Niemann is CEO of the NaWik. With a doctorate in media studies, he was a junior research group leader in the science communication department at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and previously worked as a research assistant at the University of Trier. His research focus in the field of science communication is qualitative reception research.
Vita
Born in 1981. Studied political science and media studies at the University of Trier and international journalism at Hamline University in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Scholarship holder of the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes (2004-2007). Master’s thesis on podcasting. From 2007 to January 2014, lecturer and research assistant in media studies at the University of Trier. Collaborated in the interdisciplinary research network “Interactive Science” with a focus on the reception of scientific presentations (2008-2011). Doctoral thesis on the online political communication of the major political parties in Germany in selected state election campaigns in 2011 (funded by the Research Fund of the University of Trier). Employee at the Institute of Science Communication at KIT. Head of the KIT junior research group “Science In Presentations” until December 2018 . Representation of the W3 professorship for science communication in digital media at KIT in the winter semester 2016/17. Scientific Director of the National Institute for Science Communication (NaWiK) from January 2019 to October 2024. Managing Director of NaWik since November 2024.
