Train-the-trainer
NaWik has developed a three-stage concept for research institutions and universities that helps build advanced science communication skills for researchers within their organisation. The approach begins with NaWik’s E-learning courses, which provide a foundational level of knowledge. This is followed by on-site, in-depth workshops led by trained in-house staff who have completed NaWik’s Train-the-trainer course. The institution’s trained instructors then use the E-learning courses as a foundation to facilitate interactive workshops, which deepen participants’ understanding through practical exercises and reflective activities.

Stage 1: Training as a trainer
In the first step, the institution signs a framework agreement with NaWik on the implementation of the Train-the-trainer concept.
Selected employees of the institution then attend trainers in a two-day NaWik in-preson training course.
During the training course, future trainers receive all the necessary handouts and a comprehensive concept for conducting in-depth workshops.

Stage 2: E-learning as a prerequisite for participation in the in-depth workshop
All interested employees of the institution must first complete the NaWik E-learning course “Basics of Science Communication”.
Participants learn about the central dimensions of good science communication with the public and the media. The self-guided course is designed to be engaging and diverse, incorporating animations, videos, practical examples and interactive exercises and elements.
Stage 3: Implementation of in-depth workshops
Successful e-learners then participate in an in-depth workshop led by the trainers who were previously trained. The interactive workshop focuses on the practical application of the knowledge gained in the E-learning course. The workshops are evaluated, and the feedback discussed with experienced NaWik instructors.
